Who repairs spas and hot tubs in La Quinta, CA?

CV Pools, at 52115 Avenida Bermudas in La Quinta, has repaired spas and hot tubs across the Coachella Valley since 1998. We fix heaters, pumps, blowers, jets, spa-side controls and leaking spillways, and we build custom spas. The diagnostic visit is $150, credited toward your approved repair. Call (760) 619-2409.

There is one night every October when the whole valley reaches for the spa switch at the same time.

You know the night. The sun drops behind the Santa Rosas, the patio finally feels good, somebody says let's turn the spa on, and you push the button you have not touched since April. Then you stand there in the dark waiting for a rumble that does not come.

That single night is the busiest phone night of our year for spa repair in La Quinta, CA. Not because spas break in October. Because October is when you find out what the summer already did.

A spa in the Coachella Valley bakes for five months. Water sits at 100 degrees before you even heat it. Hard water leaves a chalk crust inside the heat exchanger. Blowing sand loads the spa filter while nobody is watching. Seals dry out. Control boards cook in a hot equipment enclosure. Nothing announces itself in July, because in July you are not asking the spa to do anything.

Then one cool night you ask, and the spa answers honestly. CV Pools has handled spa repair in La Quinta, CA since 1998. We take that October call all week long, and most of what we find falls into six familiar buckets.

What your spa is telling you

Most spa repair calls start with one of six sentences. Find the symptom that matches yours. We will tell you what it usually means, what you can safely check yourself, and where the line is.

It won't heat at all. The pump runs, the water moves, the water stays cold. Start with the easy stuff: gas valve open, breaker on, spa mode selected instead of pool mode. If the heater tries to fire and quits, it is usually an igniter, a flame sensor, a pressure switch that is not seeing enough flow, or a gas valve at the end of its life. Write down the error code on the heater display before you call. That one note often shortens the visit. Gas appliances and gas lines are not a homeowner repair.

It heats, but it takes forever. Slow heat almost always means poor flow or a scaled heat exchanger. Our water is hard, and calcium plates the inside of the exchanger tubes like the inside of a kettle, so heat stops moving into the water. A choked filter does the same thing from the other direction. If your spa used to hit temperature in 30 minutes and now needs two hours, something is restricted, not undersized.

The jets feel weak. Weak jets are a flow problem, an air problem, or a blower problem. A sand-loaded filter cartridge is the number one cause here. After that: a clogged jet insert, a closed air control, a suction-side air leak that lets the pump swallow air, or a blower that has quit. You can pull and rinse a cartridge yourself. If rinsing does not bring the jets back, the cause is at the pad.

The water is cloudy or foamy. Foam is usually body oils, soap and lotion in a small body of very warm water. Cloudy is usually chemistry, filtration, or both. A spa holds a few hundred gallons instead of twenty thousand, so it swings fast and fixes fast. Balanced water also protects the heater, which is the expensive part.

The spillway is leaking into the pool. On an attached spa, the spa should hold its level when the spillway valve is closed. If the spa slowly drains into the pool overnight, you have a valve that is not seating, a failed check valve, or water finding its way behind the spillway tile. Hard water also scales the spillway lip and makes the sheet run crooked, which is a different problem with a similar look.

The control panel is dead. No lights on the spa-side control, no beep, no response. Often a failed topside panel or its cord, a cooked control board, a tripped GFCI, or a wiring connection that heat has broken down. Pool and spa electrical work is bonded and grounded under the California Electrical Code for a reason. Leave the panel closed and call us.

People call it a spa, a hot tub, or just the hot side. If you searched hot tub repair La Quinta and landed here, you are in the right place. Same trade, same crew, same truck.

Hot tub repair service in La Quinta, CA covers both kinds of tub we see out here: the raised gunite spa attached to a pool, and the standalone tub sitting on a slab. Different machines, same short list of things that fail.

Here is how a visit runs. You call (760) 619-2409 and describe what the spa is doing. We come out for a $150 diagnostic, and that $150 comes off the approved repair. A technician tests instead of guessing: flow, gas pressure, voltage at the board, temperature rise across the heater, and a look for leaks at every joint at the pad. You get told plainly what is wrong and what it costs before anyone opens a part box. We carry common Pentair, Jandy, Raypak, Hayward and Balboa parts, so a lot of spa repair in La Quinta finishes on the first visit.

Hot tub equipment repair

Almost every spa repair we do lives at the equipment pad, not in the tub. Hot tub equipment repair covers the heater, the circulation and jet pumps, the blower, the jets and air controls, the spa-side topside panel, the automation actuators that swap the plumbing between pool mode and spa mode, and the spillway plumbing behind the tile.

The two failures we see most after a valley summer are heat-related. Heat exchangers scale shut from hard water. Control boards and relays sit in a closed enclosure in direct sun and give up. Both look like my spa is broken, and both have a specific fix.

The third is the actuator. On a pool with an attached spa, small motorized valves rotate to send water to the spa and back. When one sticks, you get a spa that will not fill, will not drain, or heats the pool by accident and runs your gas bill up. That is a part, not a rebuild. Pricing runs by component, and we quote it before we start.

Hot tub equipment maintenance

The cheapest spa repair in La Quinta, CA is the one you never have to book. Hot tub equipment maintenance is a short list done at the right time of year. We clean or replace the filter cartridge, check heater operation and gas pressure, service the pumps and blower, balance the water for calcium hardness so the exchanger stays clean, test the controls, and look over the spillway and the seals.

The right time of year here is September. Not October. By the time the valley gets its first cool night, our schedule for the week is already full, and so is everyone else's.

Second-home owners in PGA West and Legacy Villas get the worst of this. A spa that sits unused from May to November does not rest. It sits full of hot, hard, evaporating water with sand blowing across the cover. Coming back to a spa that already works beats coming back to a spa that needs a part ordered.

Custom spa construction and spa additions

The other October phone call is the one that starts, we don't have a spa, and we're tired of that. Adding a spa to an existing pool is real construction, not an accessory.

Done properly it means a new gunite shell tied into the pool structure, new plumbing runs, a heater sized for both bodies, valves and actuators so the system can switch modes, bonding and electrical to code, tile and coping that match what you already have, and a spillway shaped so the sheet lands where you want it.

We build them raised with a spillway, flush with the deck, or set into a corner with a wall behind it. On the tighter lots around Old Town La Quinta, corner spas and small footprints do most of the work. On the bigger yards at PGA West and Rancho La Quinta, we usually get asked for a raised spa with a wide spillway and a fire feature nearby. Estimates on spa additions, remodels and new builds are free.

Hot tub test soaking

Anybody can swap a part. Proving a spa repair actually held is a different job. Hot tub test soaking is how we close out a repair.

We fill it, heat it, and run the spa through a full cycle while we watch it. Does it reach set temperature and hold it? Do all the jets balance, or is one starving? Does the blower come on and stay on? Do the lights and the topside panel behave? Is every joint at the pad dry after an hour of running hot?

We would rather find the second problem in your driveway than have you find it on a Friday night with guests standing there. That is also why we ask you to be home at the end when we can. You push the buttons, we watch your face. If something feels off, we are still standing there.

Swimming pool heater repair

On most La Quinta backyards, one heater serves both bodies of water. Fix the heater and you have fixed the spa. Swimming pool heater repair is the single most common reason a spa goes cold. The heater does not care whether it is filling a 400-gallon spa or an 18,000-gallon pool. When it will not fire, both stay cold.

What fails: igniters, flame sensors, pressure switches, gas valves, thermal regulators, and heat exchangers scaled shut by valley water. Rodents in the burner tray are more common than people expect out here, especially on pads near open desert edges.

Two things help before we arrive. Write down the error code exactly as it shows on the display. And check whether the pool heats normally while the spa does not. If the pool heats and the spa does not, the problem is more likely flow, an actuator or a spa-side control than the heater itself.

Swimming pool water feature construction

Swimming pool water feature construction is the same trade and the same crew as a spa addition. Sheer descents, scuppers, bubblers, rock waterfalls, raised spa spillways and fire bowls all live or die on pump sizing and plumbing.

A feature that starves the pool or runs crooked was undersized on paper before anyone poured concrete. We size the pump to the feature, not the other way around, and we set the spillway lip so the sheet lands where you actually want it instead of splashing down the face of the wall.

Water features are also the easiest thing to plan alongside a spa addition, since the plumbing, the valves and the equipment pad are already open. Estimates on water features, spa additions, remodels and new builds are free.

Attached spa or standalone hot tub

People use spa and hot tub like they mean the same thing. For a repair, they do not.

The attached spa is the raised gunite bowl built into your pool, sharing plumbing, a pump, a filter and a heater with the pool. It is a piece of the pool, finished in the same plaster and tile, and it spills into the pool over a spillway. When it breaks, the fix is usually at the shared equipment pad: heater, actuator, valve, control board. Most homes in Rancho La Quinta and PGA West have this kind.

The standalone hot tub is a self-contained acrylic or roto-molded tub with its own cabinet, its own small pump and heater, foam insulation and a hard cover. It plugs in or is hard-wired, its parts live inside the skirt, and the whole machine is built by one manufacturer as one unit. You see these on patios and casitas all over Old Town La Quinta and behind Legacy Villas units.

We repair both. The difference matters for three reasons. Repairs on an attached spa touch the pool's whole system, so a spa symptom can be a pool problem. Standalone tubs use manufacturer-specific packs and panels, which changes parts availability. And drain-and-refill schedules are completely different, because a few hundred gallons behaves nothing like twenty thousand.

Waking a spa up, putting it to sleep, and how to reach us

Two visits a year keep a valley spa out of trouble.

Waking it up, September into October. Drain and refill if the water has been sitting hot since spring. Pull and clean or replace the filter cartridge, and expect it to be gray with sand. Balance calcium hardness first, because that is what protects the heat exchanger. Fire the heater and watch a full heat cycle. Run every jet and the blower. Check the spillway for scale on the lip and for tile that sounds hollow when you tap it.

Putting it to sleep, roughly May. A desert summer is harder on an unused spa than a desert winter is. Water that sits at 100 degrees with no circulation grows things and concentrates minerals. Either keep the spa circulating on a short schedule with balanced water, or drain it and shade the shell. A dry gunite spa in direct valley sun is not a good idea either, so this is a conversation, not a rule. Second homes need a plan in writing, because nobody is there to notice the cover blew off in a wind event.

Spa and hot tub questions we get every week

CV pools in Lauinta
My spa won't heat. What's wrong?

Usually the igniter, flame sensor, pressure switch or gas valve, or a heat exchanger scaled shut by hard water. Check that the gas valve is open, the breaker is on, and the system is in spa mode. Write down the heater's error code before calling (760) 619-2409. Gas repairs are not DIY.

It heats, but it takes forever. Is that normal?

No. Slow heat means restricted flow or a scaled heat exchanger. Valley calcium plates the inside of the tubes and heat stops moving into the water. A sand-loaded filter does the same thing. If your spa used to hit temperature in 30 minutes and now needs hours, something is blocked.

The jets feel weak. What should I check first?

Pull the filter cartridge and rinse it. Blowing desert sand loads spa filters fast, and that is the most common cause. If the jets stay weak, look at closed air controls, a clogged jet insert, a suction-side air leak or a failed blower. Those last ones need a technician at the pad.

The spa-side control panel is blank. Is that expensive?

Not always. It can be a tripped GFCI, a failed topside panel, a damaged panel cord, or a control board that cooked in a hot equipment enclosure. We test the circuit and the board before quoting a part, and you get the price before we order anything.

Do you work on standalone hot tubs or only attached spas?

We repair spas attached to pools and we repair standalone tubs. Attached gunite spas share the pool's pump, filter and heater, so the fix is usually at the equipment pad. Standalone tubs use manufacturer packs and panels, which changes parts availability.

Why does my spa cost so much to run in winter?

Cold desert nights, a big temperature difference, and heat lost through an old or waterlogged cover. A scaled heat exchanger makes it worse because the heater runs longer for the same result. A good cover and a clean exchanger are the two biggest levers on a winter gas bill.

The spillway is leaking into the pool. What causes that?

A spa that drains into the pool overnight usually has a valve that is not seating or a failed check valve. If water is going somewhere else, it may be getting behind the spillway tile. Hard water also scales the spillway lip and makes the sheet run crooked, which looks similar.

Should I drain my spa for the summer?

Often yes, but not always. Water sitting at 100 degrees all summer with no circulation concentrates minerals and grows things. Draining a gunite spa and leaving it in direct valley sun brings its own risks. We look at your setup and give you one plan, not a rule.

How fast can someone come out?

We answer at (760) 619-2409 Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and we book by how bad it is. October and November fill fastest, because the whole valley discovers the same problem the same week. Call early if you can.

What does a spa diagnostic cost?

$150, and it is credited toward the repair once you approve it. A technician tests flow, gas pressure, voltage, temperature rise across the heater, and every joint at the pad. You get a plain answer and a firm price before anyone opens a part box.
