Who do I call for pool repair in La Quinta, CA?

CV Pools, at 52115 Avenida Bermudas in La Quinta, has handled pool repair across the Coachella Valley since 1998. We fix pumps, heaters, leaks, salt systems, filters, automation, lights, plumbing, and pool electrical on any brand, no matter who built the pool. A $150 diagnostic visit gets you a written finding, credited toward the approved repair. Call (760) 619-2409.

Good pool repair in La Quinta, CA starts before anyone picks up a tool. When our technician walks up to your pad, he stands still and reads it. Here is what we look at.

The plastic. Pump lids, valve handles, and heater panels turn chalky after years in valley sun. Brittle lids crack, and a cracked lid pulls air into the system. Color dates a pad better than any sticker.

The sound. He listens before he touches. A steady hum is fine. A high screech points at motor bearings. A gravelly rattle, like small rocks in a can, usually means the pump is pulling air instead of water.

The pressure gauge. He reads it, then asks what it read when the filter was last cleaned. That gap tells him whether the filter is packed with desert sand or something inside the tank failed.

The salt cell. He looks through the clear housing for white crust bridging the plates. Hard valley water builds it fast, and a scaled cell reads low salt even when your salt is perfect.

The date sticker. A 2009 heater and a 2023 heater with the same code are two different money conversations.

Sixty seconds of reading saves an hour of guessing. That is where an honest pool repair estimate begins.

Equipment out here does not fail the way it fails on the coast, and that shapes every pool repair we run.

Direct sun above 115 degrees. An unshaded pad cooks. Control boards, capacitors, and plastic housings age years in one summer. Shade over a pad is one of the cheapest upgrades a La Quinta homeowner can make.

Hard water. Valley water is loaded with calcium. It scales salt cells shut, coats heat exchangers so heaters cannot move heat, and leaves that white band on the tile line.

Blowing sand. Wind events pack filters fast and drive grit into pump seals. Pads in Indian Springs and Rancho Ocotillo see it every season.

Monsoon debris. Late-summer storms fill skimmers with leaves and palm fiber in one afternoon, and the pump strains against it for a week.

Add a fifth for second homes: an empty house. Snowbird pools in Santa Rosa Cove and La Quinta Country Club lose a quarter inch a day, the level falls below the skimmer throat, and the pump runs dry. That chain drives more pool repair calls here than anything else.

What the $150 diagnostic covers, and why diagnosis is the actual work

The $150 pays for a licensed technician at your house with real instruments, taking the time to find what is truly wrong. Not a guess from the driveway. He tests the circuit, reads flow and pressure, checks salinity with a meter, pulls the cell, checks amp draw on the motor, and reads codes off the board. You get a written finding and a firm price before any part is replaced. Approve the pool repair and the $150 comes off the bill.

People push back on paying for a diagnosis. The honest answer is that in pool repair, diagnosis is the skill. Parts are easy. Anyone can sell a $900 motor for a $40 O-ring problem, and out here that happens. We would rather charge for the thinking and be right.

Free estimates are a different thing. Those come with remodels, replaster, new builds, and equipment upgrades. Planned work, not detective work.

Repair it or replace it? We get asked this on nearly every pool repair call, so here is the plain rule we use.

Repair it when the failed part is small and the machine around it is sound. A pump under about eight years old with a bad seal, a lid O-ring, an igniter, a flow switch, a relay, a cracked union. Cheap fixes on good equipment.

Replace it when the failure is the expensive core of an old unit. A burned motor on a fifteen-year-old single-speed pump. A heat exchanger scaled shut in a heater from the 2000s. A control board nobody makes anymore. Pool repair money there buys something that fails again next season.

Two things tip it toward replacement. An old single-speed pump costs real money every month in power, so a new one starts paying for itself right away. And parts: if the board is discontinued, the choice is already made.

We tell you which side of that line you are on before you spend.

Almost every water-loss call in Santa Rosa Cove opens the same way: it is probably just the heat, right? Sometimes it is. In midsummer a valley pool gives up about a quarter inch a day to evaporation. Run the bucket test two days. If the pool drops clearly more than the bucket, water is going somewhere it should not.

Then the real pool repair work starts. We pressure test suction and return lines one at a time, use listening gear on the deck, and put dye at the skimmer throat, the light niche, and the main drain. Guessing is how decks get broken open for nothing.

Heaters sit in 115-degree sun all summer, then get asked to work the first cool night in October. That is when pool repair calls come in from La Quinta Country Club and Rancho Ocotillo on the same afternoon.

Write the error code down before you call. It shortens the visit and lowers your bill. Most lockouts come down to four things: low water flow, a tired igniter or flame sensor, a drifted pressure switch, or a heat exchanger scaled shut by hard water.

Two you can check safely: is the filter clean, and is the gas shutoff open. Past that it is gas and high voltage, which is licensed work. We service Raypak, Pentair, Jandy, and Hayward.

Pump repairs and installation

The pump is the heart of the pad and the part that tells on itself loudest. Screeching almost always means bearings. Rattling and lost prime almost always means air on the suction side. Two different pool repair jobs at two very different prices, so we listen and test before anyone buys a motor.

California energy rules now require variable-speed motors on most residential replacement pumps. Variable speed also runs quieter and cheaper, which matters when your pool runs long hours in July.

We repair and install Pentair, Hayward, Jandy, and Sta-Rite pumps.

Swimming pool salt system repair

Here is the most common false alarm in the valley. Your system says low salt. You add three bags. It still says low salt. Now you have too much salt and the same error.

The salt is usually fine. Hard Coachella Valley water lays white calcium across the titanium plates inside the cell, and a scaled cell cannot read or produce. This pool repair starts with an independent salinity meter. Then we pull the cell and either clean or replace it. Sometimes the fault is the flow switch or a control board baking in direct sun.

Swimming pool light repair

A dark pool at night is more than a look. It is a safety problem when kids are in the water.

Please do not pull a light fixture yourself. Pool lighting and bonding fall under strict electrical code, and a wet niche with a bad ground is a real hazard. Shut the breaker off and call.

We test the circuit before selling anything, because a good lamp on a dead circuit is money wasted. If the fixture is old incandescent, this pool repair is a good moment to switch to color LED.

Swimming pool filter repair

Blowing sand is the quiet enemy out here. After a windy stretch, filters in Indian Springs load up in days, not months. A choked filter starves the pump, and a starved pump works harder and dies sooner, which turns a cheap cleaning into a real pool repair.

Know your clean pressure and write it on the tank with a marker. When the gauge climbs 8 to 10 PSI above that number, it is time. If cleaning does not bring it back down, something inside gave out: a cracked manifold, torn DE grids, blown sand laterals, a leaking tank band, or a flat O-ring.

Swimming pool automation and controls repair

Automation is wonderful right up to the day the app stops talking to the panel. Then the spa will not heat, the lights come on at 3 a.m., and nobody can find the manual.

We service Pentair EasyTouch and IntelliCenter, Hayward OmniLogic, and Jandy AquaLink. Usual failures: boards cooked by heat, stuck relays, actuators that no longer travel their full sweep, antennas that lost their link. Snowbird owners feel this pool repair hardest, because a wrong schedule in an empty house runs wrong for months.

Swimming pool general plumbing repairs

Pool plumbing in the desert lives a hard life. Pipe expands and contracts through big daily swings, soil shifts, and old glue joints let go. Monsoon debris packs skimmer throats and strains the lines.

This pool repair covers suction lines, return lines, skimmers, main drains, valves, unions, and the pad manifold. Before we cut concrete, we pressure test to find the break, then open the smallest hole that does the job. Deck repair is expensive, and guessing wrong is worse.

Electrical repair

Heat is hard on wire. Connections at the pad loosen, oxidize, and burn. Our pool repair crew works on pump circuits, timers and time clocks, GFCI breakers, sub-panels, bonding, and low-voltage lighting runs.

Bonding is the part homeowners never hear about until an inspector mentions it. Every metal piece around the water is tied together with heavy copper so nothing carries a difference in voltage. On older La Quinta pools we find that grid broken or corroded often.

Pool repair in La Quinta, CA: questions we get every week

CV pools in Lauinta
My pool is losing water. Is that a leak or evaporation?

Run the bucket test. Set a bucket on a step, fill it to match the pool level, mark both, and leave the pump running two days. Evaporation drops both the same, about a quarter inch a day in midsummer. If the pool drops clearly more than the bucket, you have a leak.

My pump is screeching. What is that?

A high, steady screech almost always means the motor bearings are worn out. It gets louder over weeks, then the motor seizes. A gravelly rattle instead of a screech usually means air on the suction side, which is a far cheaper fix. Shut it off and call before it burns up.

My heater is flashing a code and will not fire. What now?

Write the code down first. Check two safe things: is the filter clean, and is the gas shutoff valve open. Low flow causes a lot of lockouts. If both check out, stop there. Igniters, gas valves, and heat exchangers are licensed pool repair work, not weekend work.

My salt system says low salt right after I added salt. Why?

Usually the salt is fine and the cell is scaled shut with calcium. Hard valley water bridges white crust across the plates, and a coated cell cannot read salinity or make chlorine. Do not add more salt. Have the cell pulled, tested, and cleaned or replaced.

My pool light is out. Can I change the bulb myself?

Please do not. Pool lights involve a wet niche, conduit, and a bonding grid, and a wiring fault around water is a real hazard. Shut the breaker off so nobody swims with a live fault. We test the circuit before selling a fixture, because a good lamp on a dead circuit fixes nothing.

How fast can you come out?

It depends on the season. Summer weeks fill quickly because heat kills equipment. Call early in the day for the best shot at a same-week slot. We answer the phone Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

What does the $150 diagnostic cover?

A licensed technician comes out with instruments, tests the system, finds the real cause, and gives you a written finding plus a firm price before work starts. Approve the pool repair and the whole $150 is credited toward it. Remodels, replaster, new builds, and equipment upgrades get free estimates instead.

Do you fix pools you did not build?

Yes, and that is most of our work. We service pumps, heaters, filters, salt systems, automation, lights, and plumbing from Pentair, Hayward, Jandy, Raypak, Sta-Rite, and Intermatic, no matter who installed them. Plenty of the pools we repair in La Quinta are older than our trucks.

Should I repair or replace an old pump?

If the pump is under about eight years old and the failure is a seal, O-ring, or lid, repair it. If the motor itself burned out on an old single-speed unit, replace it. A new variable-speed pump uses far less power every month, so it starts paying you back right away.

What should I do before you arrive?

Write down the error code, when the trouble started, and any noise you heard. Clear a path to the equipment pad and open the gate for us. Leave the dog inside. If water is spraying or a breaker keeps tripping, shut the system off at the breaker and say so when you call.

Do you handle pool repair outside La Quinta?

Yes. La Quinta is home base, and we have run pool repair calls across the wider Coachella Valley from here since 1998. Call (760) 619-2409 and we will tell you honestly when we can reach your address.
